Prototype 2, the sequel to Radical Entertainment’s 2009 action title Prototype, will be released in 2012, Activision has announced.
The debut trailer for the game premiered during the Spike TV Video Game Awards.
The trailer gave fans a first look at Sgt. James Heller, and the reasons why he plans to destroy Prototype’s original anti-hero, Alex Mercer.
“When PROTOTYPE surpassed 2 million units we knew gamers would want a sequel to find out what happens next with Alex Mercer,” said Ken Rosman, studio head, Radical Entertainment. “The team here at Radical is sincerely grateful to the fans and we are laser focused on delivering an even bigger and better experience with Prototype 2!”
Prototype 2 is in development for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
Radical hasn’t made a game since Prototype launched in June 2009, meaning the studio has been given plenty of time to work on the sequel.
Initial signs from the debut trailer are promising and that’s with over a year of development time still to come.
