Pokemon Sun and Moon have sold a combined 14.69 million units, as of December 31, 2016, Nintendo has announced.
The games look certain to eclipse Mario Kart 7, which currently stands at 14.82 million units. Overtaking Pokemon X and Y also seems likely, with the earlier Pokemon titles having sold 16.06 million units.
Pokemon Diamond and Pearl are the best-selling Pokemon games on Nintendo DS, shifting 17.64 million units.
“The release of the smart device application Pokemon GO led to increased sales of software in the Pokemon series released in the past and drove Nintendo 3DS family hardware sales growth, particularly outside of Japan,” stated Nintendo.
3DS hardware for the quarter was up 10 per cent to 6.45 million units.
