Pokémon Scarlet and Violet release date – when is the new Pokémon game out?

The latest generation of Pokémon games are almost upon us – with the launch of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet coming later this month.

Pokémon fans around the world are gearing up for another adventure collecting, training up and battling with their favourite monsters – and some new ones too.

The new game features a bunch of changes to the established formula – and here’s the info you need pertaining to the game’s release date and more.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet – release date, new region and more

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is set to release exclusively on the Nintendo Switch on November 18, 2022.

As is par for the course, there’ll be two versions of the game – Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. While they’re both largely similar, they’ll feature version specific differences, such as the specific Pokémon you’ll encounter.

There’ll also be some minor differences in the story – and some of the late game content. If you want to be safe, the game will be available in a double pack, but for the most part you should be fine with whichever you choose.

The new games are set in the new region of Paldea. The map appears to be based on the Iberian Peninsula, which is made up of the countries Spain, Portugal and Andorra.

The game has revealed its largest city of the region as Mesagoza. Here, players will join either the Naranja Academy or Uva Academy, depending on which version of the game they play.

This time, your Pokédex will be part of your Rotom Phone as an app. The phone will also act as a guide, with a map of the entire region with nearby towns, Pokémon Centres and even nearby Pokémon.

A major feature of the new games is that of Terastallization. This is an ability that trainers can use to give their Pokémon a crystal-like appearance. However, more than just cosmetic, it’ll allow Pokémon to get special powers and even enhance their types. You can read more on that here.

Furthermore, the new game will also feature co-op play, Tera Raid Battles and new Competitive Play options. They’ll also be able to trade and battle via the Poké Portal.
