Niantic has announced the advent of the Lunar New Year in Pokémon Go, and with it comes the debut of Minccino and Darumaka, a rush of red Pokémon, and increased likelihood of encountering Shinies (via Polygon).

The event begins on January 24 at 9.00pm GMT and ends on February 3 at 9.00pm GMT. Herds of Charmeleon, Corphish, Flareon, Foongus, and other red-coloured Pokémon will be found in the wild, and there is even a chance to catch a red Shiny Gyarados in the overworld, too. Eggs will contain red Pokémon like Foongus, Shuckle, and Darumaka, the latter of whom will be making its debut in the mobile game. These critters will be hatched from 7km Eggs only, so clear out your inventory and make space for those special, speckled Eggs.

2020 is the Year of the Rat, and so there will be a Minccino Limited Research event held on February 2 from 2.00pm to 5.00pm in your local time zone. Professor Willow has a host of tasks to complete about the chinchilla Pokémon, and assures that it will be able to evolve into Cinccino with an Unova Stone. Minccino will also be found in 5km Eggs even after the Limited Research event closes, with a chance to encounter an oh-so-rare Shiny Minccino. And, rodent-like Pokémon like Bidoof, Marill, Minun, Nidoran, and Rattata will be skittering around in the wild while the research event is going on.

Lastly, there will be increased Rare Candies to be had from Gifts during the Lunar New Year celebrations, and the likelihood of becoming Lucky Friends and getting a Lucky Pokémon will be increased.

Pokémon Go is out now on iOS and Android.
