PlayStation has announced it’ll offer PlayStation Plus services for free this weekend, allowing everyone to play online regardless of if they have a current subscription.
The company has declared via Twitter that all online multiplayer will be free for the duration. That means PS5 and PS4 owners will be able to enjoy online games of titles like FIFA 22, Grand Theft Auto: Online and Call of Duty: Vanguard for no extra charge. An internet connection and PSN account will be required though, of course.
Helpfully, the free weekend also happens to tie in with some seasonal additions for some of those games mentioned. For example, Call of Duty: Vanguard is to offer several days of free access to its multiplayer between December 16 and 21 as part of a Festive Fervor event. Grand Theft Auto Online, meanwhile, will welcome Dr Dre and the return of Franklin in The Contract. That new story expansion lands on December 15, so it’ll be live by the time the free weekend rolls around.
The PlayStation Plus free online multiplayer weekend kicks off 00:01AM on December 18 and ends at 23:59 on December 19. Last week brought rumors that PlayStation may be looking to merge its Plus and Now subscriptions into a new service.
