The microchip that is set to power Sony’s upcoming PlayStation 3 is to be revealed later today at the International Solid-State Circuits Conference in San Francisco. While news that will come from the show is unlikely to excite most gamers, it should give technical wizards an idea on what the chip is capable of.

The Cell chip is said to allow processing power to be shared over a network, but with the current speed of the internet not being incredibly fast, it seems unlikely a home console could benefit from this feature. We will bring you any news from the show if anything relevant is revealed.
