PlayStation 2 sales up 300%

Latest ChartTrack sales figures reveal a massive sales rise for the PS2 since the launch of its new, slimlined design last week.

Sales of Sony’s consoles have tripled, with 50,000 units of the new model snapped up in its first week, bringing Sony ever closer to its 7-million sales barrier in the UK – an absolutely unprecedented number for a console that is only four years old.

The Xbox’s sales increased by 7% over the last week, and the Game Boy Advance SP’s by an impressive 31%. Both are well eclipsed, however, by the PlayStation’s staggering performance, which at the moment is outselling the long-suffering GameCube at a rate of seventeen units to one.

The N-Gage still struggles to break a three-figure sales quotient; but hey, that’s hardly Nokia’s fault when most videogame-specific retailers have given up stocking it altogether…
