Pearl Abyss, the maker of Black Desert Online, has shown off its upcoming ‘exosuit MMO shooter’ Plan 8 at the G-Star Gaming Expo (via PC Gamer).

The project’s premise looks like where it all went wrong for Earth in Horizon Zero Dawn, so I for one am very intrigued. The trailer shows a world in turmoil as evil robots seek out survivors, but the humans have a trick up their sleeves. Adding mechanical prosthetics and upgrades to their exosuits, players may be able to evade threats with Titanfall-style wall running, a scorpion tail-like whip that splits robots in two, and a set of wings that allows hovering in the air.

The conflict is not so clear cut though, as there appears to be two antagonists. One is an especially expressive dude with hulking mechanical arms and the other is a lady who’s taken fashion tips from Dr. Olivia Octavius. I’m sort of sad that it’s an MMO rather than a single-player experience, but it does look like players will synchronise ability-based combos to turn the tides in battle. Which is rad. And, one of the developers behind the original Counter-Strike mod for Half-Life, Minh ‘Gooseman’ Le, has been brought on board to the project.

Pearl Abyss has not revealed which platforms Plan 8 will be coming to, but if it's like Black Desert Online, it could release on PC and then launch for consoles after. Nor is there a release date yet, but we’ll keep you in the loop once we know more. Watch the reveal trailer below.
