Niantic and Nintendo have announced the launch of their brand new phone game Pikmin Bloom, out today on iOS and Android.
The app is another collaboration between the two studios similar to Pokémon Go. However, Pikmin Bloom has more of a focus on walking than its older sibling. The vital part is a daily walk in the real world, where you’ll find Pikmin seedlings along your path on the in-game map. The more steps you take, the more Pikmin will join your squad.
Your route in Pikmin Bloom will be marked as you walk by your Mii avatar. As you go, you can choose to start flower planting, making petals bloom along your route. These help speed up the growth of your Pikmin and helps you earn in-game Flower Coins. To recharge your flower seeds, you’ll send off your Pikmin on Expeditions to collect pieces of fruit. Different fruits produce nectar which can be fed to Pikmin to make them grow flower petals.
You can also discover new Pikmin shoots, which take some steps to grow into Decor Pikmin. These Pikmin wear cute costumes, themed around where you found them. The game also features a Lifelog to help track your daily walks, as well as stats and achievements. Just like Pokémon Go there’ll also be regular Community Day events to encourage you to play Pikmin Bloom with other players.
The Pikmin mobile game was first announced by both Niantic and Nintendo back in March of this year. Pikmin Bloom is rolling out worldwide from today, starting with Australia and Singapore and across other countries within the next few days. It’s available on the App Store for iOS and Google Play for Android, and you can check out a trailer featuring Pikmin creator Shigeru Miyamoto down below.
