Pikmin 4 is not only in development, but it may be here sooner rather than later, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto has told Eurogamer.

Speaking to the site back in July, Miyamoto said of a fourth game: “It’s actually very close to completion. Pikmin teams are always working on the next one.”

Miyamoto’s comments were later confirmed by Nintendo: “We can confirm that Pikmin 4 is in development but that is all we can confirm at present.”

A release date – or indeed, platform – for Pikmin 4 has yet to be revealed.

Exactly how close to completion Pikmin 4 is remains unclear, as is the game’s release platform. Launching on Wii U would be cost effective given the dev team has already gotten to grips with the platform in making Pikmin 3. However, the future of Wii U remains uncertain with Nintendo NX on the horizon. Pikmin 4 as a launch title on NX, perhaps?
