In yesterday’s Nintendo Direct, it was announced that Overwatch is coming to Nintendo Switch on October 15.

Suspicions were roused when an Amazon listing for an official Overwatch themed Nintendo Switch case appeared. Accessory manufacturer PowerA has made cases for licensed Switch titles like The Legend of Zelda and Spyro the Dragon, so understandably it seemed a little strange to design a case for a game that’s not on the platform.

Now, it has been officially confirmed that Blizzard’s toony shooter will arrive on Nintendo Switch next month. How the game will work on the portable console is still a bit of a mystery; for example, whether Blizzard will balance the Switch version in the same way as the PS4 and Xbox One. But Overwatch will take unique advantage of the Switch’s motion sensors, and abilities including Junkrat’s Rip-Tire and Hammond’s roll will be controlled by leaning and swivelling the console.

Perhaps we’ll get some Nintendo-themed skins in celebration. A Ganon Doomfist would be exceptionally stylish, or maybe Mario and Luigi Junkrat and Roadhog, or another possibility would be a Fox McCloud Soldier 76.

Overwatch for Switch is available for pre-purchase, which will unlock the Noire Widowmaker skin and comes with three months of Switch Online membership. The game will officially launch on October 15. Watch the announcement trailer below.
