Free-to-play shooter Overwatch 2 launched its latest LTE last night, with the arrival of this year’s Lunar New Year event.

It’s the Year of the Rabbit, and with the occasion comes new skins, an appropriately decorated version of Lijang Tower and some new game modes, which we’re going to detail for you here.

Let’s break down the new modes included in the limited time event, which runs from now until February 6 2023.

Overwatch 2 Lunar New Year event game modes

Competitive Capture the Flag

The classic mode makes its return on the Lijang Tower map, with two teams trying to grab the flag and bring it back home to their base to score while defending their own base from flag poachers.

In this Competitive version of the mode, you’ll be coordinating with your team to rack up the wins and earn Competitive Points. As well as pride of place on the leaderboards, there’s also gold weapons up for grabs, which can be bought with those Competitive Points.

Capture the Flag Blitz

Similar to the traditional Capture the Flag mode, the Blitz variant plays out a little faster than the regular version thanks to one key difference.

Now the flag bases are both at the center of the map, meaning you’ll have to change both defensive and offensive strategies to ensure your team comes away with the points.

Bounty Hunter

In Bounty Hunter mode, players are thrown into a traditional free-for-all deathmatch game with a twist. The first player to score a kill gets a bounty on their head.

Take out this enemy, and you’ll get additional points for the kill. But be careful, as not only does the bounty then pass on to you – but you’ll show up nice and bright on everyone else’s HUD so they can track you down – even through walls!

Aside from the new game modes, the Lunar New Year event in Overwatch 2 has plenty of rewards for players to earn – which you can read about here. And don’t forget the Twitch Drops – which you can read more on here.
