Oculus Rift pre-orders are now open, confirming the launch price for the virtual reality headset to be £499 before shipping to UK consumers. With shipping the unit will set you back £529.

The US price is $599 before tax and shipping.

The device ships March 28 with the games EVE: Valkyrie and Lucky’s Tale, a sensor, Oculus Remote, cables, and an Xbox One controller. Those who haven’t already pre-ordered will need to wait a few more months, however, unless they happen to find a unit at select retail locations. Only an hour after pre-orders opened the shipping date for orders has changed from March for first wave to May.

With base “Oculus Ready PCs” priced at around $1000, this makes the all-in price to experience Rift something in the region of $1600.

Oculus has said that those who buy Rift will be first in line to buy the Touch controller when it ships in the latter half of the year. Those pre-ordering Rift are also free to cancel, with payment only taken when the device ships.
