Nvidia has announced Shield Tablet, a successor to the Nvidia Shield that aims to combine a tablet computer with a games console.
Launching in the UK on August 14, the Shield Tablet promises to bring “PC-grade performance” to an Android-based tablet with its built-in Tegra K1 processor, and is compatible with over 120 games, including Titanfall, DOTA 2, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag and World of Warcrafft.
Prices start from £239.99 for the 16GB Wi-Fi version, increasing to £299.99 for the 32GB 4G version. A wireless controller will also be available separately for £49.99 and an official cover for £24.99.
“Before today tablet gaming was an afterthought, restricted to general purpose tablets, limiting owners to shallow, low-fidelity touch-based titles that quickly lost their appeal,” said Nvidia.
“Innumerable Bluetooth controllers and addons came and went in an attempt to gameify these catch-all tablets, but as the tablets themselves lacked gaming technology and gaming know-how, all attempts failed. SHIELD tablet corrects this omission, bringing thoroughbred gaming technology to the table to create the ultimate gaming device, designed from the ground-up for serious gamers.”
