In very welcome news for fans of the open world mayhem series, Microsoft has announced that Crackdown 2 has joined the first Crackdown on the Xbox One's back compatiblity service, and just as Crackdown 1 was last month, has released it for free.

The second game saw the reins of the series handed over to Dundee-based developers Ruffian Games, who also were one of the developers who at one point worked on Crackdown 3 during that game's widely reported protracted development. It didn't quite recieve the same reception as its predecessor, but upped the co-op quotient from two up to four players and competitive modes that allowed for up to sixteen players.
