Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime has denied current online rumours that the company is planning to release the next Wii in 2011.

In an interview with VentureBeat, the Nintendo of America president expressed his disappointment that the 2011 date was being reported as fact, calling it "pure rumour and speculation".

Earlier this month What They Play's John Davison, formerly of 1UP, claimed that Nintendo had begun early presentations of what had been dubbed the Wii HD. Davison said he heard from multiple sources in the game development and publishing community that the Wii HD was set to hit the market "by 2011".

However, Fils-Aime said that early presentations of a prototype to industry was "not the way they would find out" about Nintendo's next console.

He said: "It's pure rumour and speculation. I find it disappointing that it's being reported as fact by a number of online outlets."
