Nintendo has revealed an interesting bit of news about its forthcoming SNES Classic Edition Console. The console will have a ‘Rewind’ feature which allows the player to go back in time when they make a mistake. It’s kind of like the ability your character has in in games like Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Braid, but in this case it’s limited to certain times, depending on the game you’re playing.

Nintendo said that the new rewind feature will work differently according to each game. Super Mario World, for example, will limit rewinding to 40 seconds, whereas Super Mario RPG will allow players to go back a few minutes. Players can finally beat the boss in Super Punch Out without putting their foot through the television in frustration. It’s a great feature if you’ve become crap at old platform games like me.

Other little added features have made it into the wee console. Display modes such as standard 4:3 ratio, CRT mode replete with scan lines, and even a ‘pixel perfect’ mode can be chosen. Additionally, players will be able to customise their game playing experience by changing the frame around the edge of game image on the TV. Noice.

The Nintendo Classic Mini: SNES Edition is out on September 29. If you haven’t already pre-ordered you’ll have to pay through the nose for one, or even fight for it. But fighting isn’t cool.
