New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe is heading to Nintendo Switch in January 2019, the format holder confirmed in its Direct event overnight.

Mazza's critically acclaimed platformer was previously rumoured to be heading to the hybrid platform just last month. In addition to the core game, the Deluxe version also adds the New Super Luigi U expansion.

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe includes Nabbit and Toadette as playable characters, with the former being ideal for beginners while the latter is, bizarrely, able to transform into Peach.

Thanks to all of the content packaged in the Deluxe version of the platformer, players will be able to enjoy a whopping 164 stages. For reference, that's more levels than Super Mario World, which is one of the biggest 2D Mario games.

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe will launch for Switch on January 11, 2019 in the US and UK.
