As the Helldivers 2 Galactic War rages on, Super Earth is divided between fighting the Automatons and Terminids. Many players also have their eyes on The Illuminate, a sci-fi alien faction that has been rumored to be coming to the game ever since its launch. But, we could be set to see a new sub-faction before The Illuminate makes an appearance, and we may have already encountered them.
Helldivers 2 leaker IronS1ghts has revealed that a new variation of the Automatons will be coming to the game, known as the Iron Fleet Automatons. This new sub-faction can be seen during illegal broadcasts and have a mirrored chrome armor. It is unclear whether these will be tougher than the regular Automatons, but the mirrored armor could make them more resistant to lasers and heat, making weapons such as the Sickle and Laser Cannon less effective.
IronS1ghts also noted that “These are “Iron Fleet” automaton units, a new sub-faction of chrome automatons. Not much info on them right now, but they were bugged in-game for a little bit. Similar chrome automatons can be seen on illegal broadcasts.”
Although the Iron Fleet Automatons are a new faction that have yet to be released, some Helldivers 2 players have reported seeing them already. When the Viper Commandos Warbond and the new jungle-themed planets were released, players noticed that some of the robots were chrome and very reflective.
U/_GreatAndPowerful pointed out that the new chrome-style Automatons were briefly in Helldivers 2 saying “I KNEW I wasn’t crazy! I saw a lot of Devastators covered in new metal around… 3 patches ago. I just thought Arrowhead updated their models, but I guess they’re just bugged new enemies.”
It will be interesting to see how these are implemented into the game. Many Sectors have yet to be made playable, so it is possible that these planets could become home for the new Automatons, or they could take over existing planets. It also looks like these could be stronger versions of the Automatons, with some reporting that they will have increased armor stats, such as the heads having medium armor.
There are currently no details as to when the Iron Fleet Automatons will be coming to the game, so for now our focus needs to continue to be on the regular Automatons and the Terminids. The current Major Order is set to wrap up after players successfully took down 5 million Bile Titans as the Gloom continues to take over the galaxy. With the recent nerfs affecting some of the most popular weapons, these Major Orders have become more difficult to complete.
