Mission modifiers have been a point of contention among the Helldivers 2 community in recent times, perhaps with less new content being released while the developers are on vacation has made players take a look at the game under a microscope and are picking apart its flaws. Many of the modifiers have been subject to criticism over recent weeks, but now players are trying to find a solution and this one could be one of the best yet.

U/REDL1ST took to Reddit to suggest new mission modifiers that will impact the enemies that you will face during the mission, rather than adding frustrating mechanics such as being able to choose fewer Stratagems or add Gunships to constantly haunt you. These modifiers may add more of a certain type of enemy or spawn groups of enemies more often, and some of these are incredibly creative and could shake up how Helldivers 2 is played, but in a good way.
For example, the Automaton Recon Group modifier would make the mission consist of many small, but fast troops. Scout striders would be extremely common, largely replacing devastators. Standard trooper bots would mostly be replaced by more durable raiders or marauders, and large groups of troopers would be common to encounter.
When it comes to the Terminids, the Recon Group modifier would make Warriors and Hive Guard rare, but there would be large groups of Hunters and Pouncers around points of interest, while larger groups of Shriekers would patrol the map looking for you.
In total, the Reddit user created eight different modifier concepts, which would make Helldivers 2 much more unique and give missions a more varied experience rather than getting stale. After six months of playing Helldivers 2, it is getting to the point where missions are becoming less enjoyable as the experience has largely stayed the same since the game launched. If Arrowhead wants to keep its player base engaged, implementing something like this could help, which is crucial as the game recently hit an all-time low after losing 97% of its players.
Mission modifiers only become active during higher difficulty missions, so if you want to avoid them you can play at lower difficulties, but where is the fun in that? Especially when the current Major Order calls for players to “split Automaton forces in two” as we are tasked with cutting off the supply lines in the Andromeda Sector. Regardless of the difficulty you play at, going into a mission suitably equipped can be the difference between success and failure, and after struggling with the Gunship modifier, I will be taking my own advice and changing my loadout.
