Announced at the end of The Game Awards, which finally ended at 4AM BST, Last of Us developer Naughty Dog unveiled its long-teased sci-fi project – Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
Revealed in a four-and-a-half minute cinematic trailer with Porsche spaceships, Pet Shop Boys CDs and frickin’ laser swords, most people thought the game looked pretty exciting. Of course, the same group as always came to spoil the fun.
Intergalactic reveal comments get shut off
Despite The Last of Us: Part 2 releasing to critical and commercial success with a beloved lesbian protagonist and a trans side character, the reveal of Intergalactic has caused online “gamers” to scream about the game’s “woke” nature.
In the game’s trailer, players are introduced to new protagonist Jordan A. Mun, a female protagonist played by mixed-race American actress Tati Gabrielle, known for her roles in Uncharted and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
Of course, the internet being the internet as it is in 2024 immediately took issue with this screaming “Go Woke, Go Broke” even though the PlayStation exclusive hack-and-slash game is essentially guaranteed to sell millions of copies.
The “anti-woke” crowd, which even took issue with Indiana Jones and The Great Circle earlier this year, immediately began whining about the game, and this was a common theme throughout The Game Awards 2024.
During the annual games celebration/marketing splurge, gamers complained about The Witcher 4 for replacing series protagonist Geralt with Ciri. Players who finished The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt would know that this was the natural progression the series’ story was going in anyway, but what would require “gamers” screaming about “woke” content in games to actually play through something that isn’t Counter-Strike 2.
Alongside the splurge of negative comments, Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic reveal has been met with a massive number of dislikes after release. At the time of writing, the game currently holds a 50% dislike rating on YouTube.
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet currently has no release date and no actual gameplay has been shown. However, it’s a Naughty Dog game, it will sell even if it’s bad, but it looks pretty damn nifty.
