Forget Gun Game, the MW2 community is itching for Infected to return

One thing on the minds of many Modern Warfare 2 players at the moment are what new game modes Infinity Ward could be cooking up for Season 2 of the popular shooter.

In fact, users on the Modern Warfare 2 Reddit are currently calling on the developer to bring back a game mode that’s usually reserved for a more haunting time of year – namely: Infected.

The idea was floated around by accb1332 who posed the question “I am absolutely dying for Infected. Does anyone else desperately want it back?”

Many posters were in agreement, calling it their ‘favourite game mode’ and likening it to the ever-popular Gun Game as their mode of choice.

“It’s weird because I can play infected for hours and not get bored,” added UnderstandingFancy68 “But any other game mode I get bored instantly. I really hope it comes back, it’s my personal favourite game mode.”

For those unfamiliar, Infected mode is an elimination style mode where one player is chosen at random to be given extra speed and a one hit kill melee weapon.

That person is the Infected – and it’s their job to spread the infection by killing the ‘Survivor’ players – who have normal weapons to try and stop them.

However, every time a survivor is taken out, they return as another Infected. The aim is for either the Infected to wipe out the Survivors, or for the Survivors to survive the time limit. (And to prevent the last survivor hiding out – every so often Survivor locations are pinged on a UAV.)

Often, the mode makes an appearance during Halloween related events – although it was last seen as an addition to Modern Warfare 2019 in December of that year.

Party modes -such as Infected and Prop Hunt – seem to be a very popular request from the Call of Duty community of late, with several saying the game ‘desperately’ needs them.

We’ll get to see if their wishes are granted when Season 2 of Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 drops next month.
