While Modern Warfare 2’s official release date is October 28, Activision has announced that many will be able to play the game’s campaign up to a week sooner than that.

While the multiplayer will no doubt be the thing that keeps the game in consoles long after launch, Infinity Ward’s campaigns have usually been a safe bet for Call of Duty’s signature bombastic action set-pieces, and MW2 is likely to be no different.

Modern Warfare 2 campaign Early Access release date

Modern Warfare 2’s campaign early access kicks off from October 20, 2022. However, the actual play time “may be subject to possible outages and applicable time zone differences.”

To get early access, it’s simply a case of pre-ordering the game digitally. The Campaign early access perk is available across all digital versions of the game – so it doesn’t matter if you’re just getting standard or the Vault Edition.

However – it should be noted that Campaign Early Access is exclusive to digital versions of the game. If you’re picking Modern Warfare 2 up from a shop or delivered on disk, there does not appear to be any way to get Campaign early access at the time of writing.

There are also a ton of Modern Warfare 2 campaign rewards for finishing the game, which we have listed here. It appears they can be grabbed on any difficulty – and with a week’s worth of play time, there’s plenty of incentive to blast through the story mode.

Modern Warfare 2 campaign which serves as an early access period will look to open their offline servers by around 10AM PT – this is around 6PM BST.

Modern Warfare 2 – how much of the campaign do I get to play in Early Access?

According to Activision themselves, you’ll get to “complete” the entire single player campaign from start to finish – including all the missions and locations.

You won’t get to play other versus AI or co-op modes like Special Ops, Raids or indeed any of the multiplayer modes. You’ll have to wait until October 28 for that.

How big is the Modern Warfare 2 campaign?
