To celebrate the most recent Pokémon Championship win, players across the globe can be rewarded with a free Mystery Gift pocket monster lifted straight out of the winning team. Nils Dunlop’s team consisted of an Urshifu Rapid Strike, Ursuluna, Incineroar, Porygon2, Amoonguss and a Flutter Mane, with each of these ‘mon heavily featuring in the current VGC meta.
This isn’t the first time that Pokémon have offered up Championship winning Mystery Gifts, with recently shared Talonflame and Gyarados recently making their way onto players’ Switches. Don’t worry, I’m not going to make you guess who the Pokémon is that is being gifted away–it’s the Porygon2.
Nils Dunlop’s Porygon2 features a Tera type of Flying, while holding an Eviolite alongside its Download ability. In terms of moves, it had Tera Blast, Ice Beam, Recover, and Trick Room, which was perhaps its most dangerous quality.

Unlike the Gyarados Mystery Gift, which is still readily available, the Porygon2 is only going to be available for a few days, meaning you’re going to have to act fast to snag it. There’s been plenty of Pokémon giveaways recently, perhaps in light of the franchises dwindling success with its mainline franchise. While it found success in its Legends series, uninspiring remakes in the shape of Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have left the sour taste of Scarlet and Violet’s underwhelming release evermore present.
The fact that there’s unlikely to be another mainline entry (Generation 10) for another few years too, means that they’re going to have to extend the SV lifespan for even longer. This isn’t necessarily something I oppose. Too long have mainline Pokemon games felt rushed, barebones, and unpolished. If Pokémon need to give out free ‘mon to keep players playing the game, I’m all for it as long as we get a decent, quality franchise entry at the end of it all.
If you tune into the Pokémon North America International Championships livestream, you’re going to be able to claim your free Porygon2 between June 7th and June 9th, which is not a lot of time at all.
