The recent release of Monster Hunter Wilds has absolutely decimated expectations. Despite some rocky performance all around, the new action/hunting game is demolishing sales records not just for the series, but for developer Capcom in general.
As players mod in DLSS 4 and find ways to circumvent the game’s paid character edit system, Monster Hunter Wilds sales continue to skyrocket. And Capcom is extremely happy with the game’s rampant success.
Monster Hunter Wilds sales destroys expectations
In a recent statement, Capcom revealed that Monster Hunter Wilds sales have already crossed 8 million units across all platforms in just three days.
“Monster Hunter Wilds, released on February 28, 2025, surpassed 8 million units in 3 days, which is the fastest a title has reached this milestone in the company’s history,” the company wrote in a recent press release.
In the statement, Capcom explained that the game’s massive speed of sales has passed every single game the company has ever released. For comparison, Resident Evil 4 Remake was the last fastest selling game for the studio which sold 9 million copies across its entire lifetime.
Capcom believes that the success of Monster Hunter Wilds is due to its pre-launch promotion including “exhibiting the title at global video game events” and the game’s prior open beta earlier this year.
“As a result of these continuous global initiatives, Monster Hunter Wilds has evoked massive excitement and achieved sales of 8 million units in 3 days, the fastest any game has done so in Capcom’s history,” the company said. “Capcom remains firmly committed to satisfying the expectations of all users by leveraging its industry leading game development capabilities in order to create highly entertaining gameplay experiences.”
While not confirmed, it seems pretty obvious that the massive launch success of Wilds will result in some heavy post-launch support. With a single expansion expected for the game sometime down the line, we could end up seeing more support than normal to capitalise on the game’s rampant sales numbers.
