It’s been confirmed that the upcoming Call of Duty games Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 will both use an upgraded version of the Ricochet anti-cheat system.

The news came as part of last night’s multiplayer reveal during the Call of Duty Next show, and an accompanying blog post on the Call of Duty website.

As per the blog, the Ricochet system will be active from launch in both Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0 from the get-go. That also includes the PC kernel-level driver.

“RICOCHET Anti-Cheat is upgraded and improved for both games,” the post reads. “Combining a year of updates from #TeamRICOCHET with new features and mitigations to protect the game.”

The overhauled system was first introduced for Call of Duty: Warzone last year, as part of its Pacific update. It then came across to Call of Duty Vanguard a few months later.

And it’s also proven fairly effective so far. A progress report back in June detailed some of the responses the system has allowed the team to work more reactively to combat hackers, and help them keep legitimate players’ experiences a good one.

On top of this, the teams also shared their commitment to combating toxicity in Call of Duty games going forward. The teams have banned over half a million accounts, including 300,000 account names moderated since launch automated filtering systems.

It’s thanks to these efforts, the team say, that there’s been a 55% drop in offensive username and clan tags reported just in August.

A new Code of Conduct has also been launched, banding together the community under three key pillars. Treat everyone with respect, compete with integrity and stay vigilant. You can read more about that here.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is set to arrive on October 28, and the first PlayStation beta kicks off this weekend. Check out all you need to know on that here.

Warzone 2.0 will follow a couple of weeks later, as a free to play launch on November 16.
