‘Modern Warfare II’ or ‘Modern Warfare 2’, depending which way you wish to spell the title, is the next blockbuster entry in the ‘Call of Duty’ franchise, and from everything shown so far, it’s promising to be every bit as exciting and action packed as its predecessor, 2019’s ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’.
In anticipation of the game’s physical release worldwide on Friday 28th October 2022. Here is a breakdown of all the major characters set to appear in the game’s campaign along with confirmation of all the actors playing them, even the ones that the game’s IMDB page hasn’t listed yet.

Captain John Price:
Taking over the role made iconic by first Captain Price actor, Billy Murray (Beech Is Back, The Bill, Eastenders), in the original ‘Modern Warfare’ trilogy of games from 2007 to 2011. Barry Sloane (Revenge, Six, Bluff City Law) had to contend with a lot of expectation to live up to when debuting as the new Captain Price in 2019’s reboot of the series, ‘Modern Warfare’.
But, live up to those expectations he did. Giving us a Price who though he may be visually and audibly younger than the Captain Price we knew and loved. Is very much the same man, as playing through the game’s campaign we quickly see has all the hallmarks of Price, his grit, his sense of honor and duty, and his loyalty to his men.
Now in ‘Modern Warfare II’, Price returns to once again lead Task Force 141 into the battles that no one else can fight, and he’s bringing some familiar faces from the franchise’s past with him.

Sergeant Kyle ‘Gaz’ Garrick
Returning from his debut in ‘Modern Warfare’, Elliot Knight (Once Upon A Time, American Gothic, Titans) reprises his role as the modern day Gaz in ‘Modern Warfare II’, having taken on the role after it was memorably played by Craig Fairbrass (Cliffhanger, Eastenders, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare) in the original ‘Modern Warfare’.
Lieutenant Simon ‘Ghost’ Riley
A fan favourite character almost from the moment that he was first revealed for the original ‘Modern Warfare 2’ game. Ghost is a character whose return has been eagerly anticipated by fans, especially given that his appearance was teased in the end credits scene of the 2019 ‘Modern Warfare’ which saw Captain Price and Laswell discussing the formation of Task Force 141.
Debuting now in ‘Modern Warfare II’, Samuel Roukin (Salem, TURN: Washington’s Spies, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) takes on the role of Ghost after it was played in the original ‘Modern Warfare II’ game by Craig Fairbrass (Cliffhanger, Eastenders, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare) who had also voiced Gaz in the original ‘Modern Warfare’.
Sergeant John ‘Soap’ MacTavish
Another fan favourite character whose appearance was teased in the end credits scene of ‘Modern Warfare’. Soap re-debuts in ‘Modern Warfare II’, this time played by Neil Ellice (Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn, Oz the Great and Powerful, Loki), taking over the role from Kevin McKidd (Rome, Dog Soldiers, Grey’s Anatomy), who memorably played Soap in both the original ‘Modern Warfare 2’ and ‘Modern Warfare 3’ games.
Nikolai
Nikolai is one of the few characters, along with Captain Price, and Soap, to have appeared in the original ‘Modern Warfare’ trilogy, before being recast and re-debuting in 2019’s ‘Modern Warfare’, and now ‘Modern Warfare II’.
In ‘Modern Warfare’ (2007) and ‘Modern Warfare 2’, Nikolai was played by Sven Holmberg (Sniper Elite V2, SWAT, Ray Donovan), and, although Nikolai appears in ‘Modern Warfare 3’, I was unable to confirm who played him when researching this article.
In the recent (2019) ‘Modern Warfare’ and returning in ‘Modern Warfare II’, Nikolai is voiced by Stefan Kapičić (Zora dubrovacka, Deadpool, Better Call Saul).
Kate Laswell
Debuting in 2019’s ‘Modern Warfare’, Laswell was played by Rya Kihlstedt (Dexter, Nashville, Heroes Reborn), who reprises the role again in Modern Warfare II.
Farah Karim
Debuting in the 2019 ‘Modern Warfare’, Farah proved to be a vital part of the game’s story, at first aiding players in the campaign before allowing players to play as Farah in several key flashback sequences to the traumatic events of her past, followed by the cathartic finale that allowed players to once more play as Farah.
In both games, Farah was memorably played by Claudia Doumit (Scandal, Timeless, Supergirl), who many will recognise now from her starring role in ‘The Boys‘ Season 3 as Congresswoman Victoria Neuman.
General Shepherd
Debuting in the original ‘Modern Warfare 2’ and mentioned by Laswell during the end scene of 2019’s ‘Modern Warfare’ as the one who acquired the files that Price had requested on Gaz, Soap, and Ghost, among others.
It’s fitting that Shepherd will re-debut in the modern era in ‘Modern Warfare II’, voiced by Glenn Morshower (Friday Night Lights, Supergirl, The Resident), an actor whose voice will be familiar to many long term ‘Call of Duty’ players. As he voiced not only “Overlord” in the ‘Modern Warfare 2’ campaign, but also appeared as one of the multiplayer character voices in ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops II’.
Colonel Alejandro Vargas
Debuting in ‘Modern Warfare II’, Vargas is a Tier One Operator from the Mexican Special Forces who leads the “Los Vaqueros” and becomes the newest member of Captain Price’s elite team, Taskforce 141. He is played in the game by Alain Mesa (The Division, Forza Horizon 5, Saints Row).
Rodolfo Parra
Rodolfo debuts in ‘Modern Warfare II’, and serves as Vargas’ second in command of the “Los Vaqueros”. He is played in the game by Bayardo De Murguia (Ad Astra, Tiny Pretty Things, Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms).
Phillip Graves
Debuting in ‘Modern Warfare II’, Graves is played by Warren Kole (Shades of Blue, Yellowjackets, The Terminal List), and is the CEO of the “Shadow Company” Private Military Company. A name that will be very familiar to long term fans of the ‘Call of Duty’ franchise.
Major Hassan Zyani
The main antagonist of the ‘Modern Warfare II’ campaign, debuting for the first time in the game. Zyani is a major in Iran’s “Quds Force”, who launches a campaign of retaliation against the United States with the assistance of the Al-Qatala terrorist group, last seen in the ‘Modern Warfare’ campaign.
Zyani is played in ‘Modern Warfare II’ by Ibrahim Renno (Agents of Babylon, The Rhythm Section, Law and Order: Organized Crime).
Valeria Garza
Played in ‘Modern Warfare II’ by María Elisa Camargo (Porque el amor manda, Bajo el mismo cielo, El Barón). Valeria is the leader of the “Las Almas Cartel” in Mexico, and serves as another antagonist for the player in the game’s campaign.
Diego Salgado
Played in ‘Modern Warfare II’ by Ramon Fernandez (Revolution, Iron Fist, Chicago P.D.). Salgado acts as Garza’s lieutenant in the “Las Almas Cartel”.
