Midnight Society has revealed the name and initial details of its first game, first person multiplayer shooter Deadrop.

The setup puts the game in the middle of an alternate future, forty years into something called the Climate Wars. Cities have erected massive ‘Refiner State’ structures to refine a resource called Space Dust from the atmosphere. These structures are under contention from competing factions made up of ‘Skins’ and ‘Syns’. These two also battle a third faction known as the Cleaners, who operate the Refiner States.

The team describes the game as a ‘vertical action shooter’ – although it’s not currently clear exact what this means. As we heard in the studio reveal, it’ll be a competitive PVP shooter on Unreal Engine 5. We also found out in March of this year that it will incorporate NFTs in the form of a Founders Pass thanks to a partnership with Web 3 company Polygon.

As well as the name and plot, players who’d purchased these passes got their first hands on with a very early build of the game over the weekend. There’s not a great deal to it just yet, with just one gun – an assault rifle, but those with the early access have been offering mixed feedback so far. The team are allowing influencers and content creators such early access as part of its promise to involve them at the earliest stages of development.

Midnight Society as a studio was first announced late last year. Its founding members include controversial streamer Guy ‘Dr Disrespect’ Beahm and former Call of Duty lead Robert Bowling. Also on the team is creative director Quinn DelHoyo, who was previously lead sandbox designer on Halo Infinite. There’s no ETA for Deadrop yet, but you can check out a pair of videos below.
