Microsoft intends to improve Xbox One’s user interface to make it easier to navigate using a controller than it currently is.
“We do want to find ways to give you some of those shortcuts and make some of the things that we have with Kinect easier with the controller,” marketing boss Yusuf Mehdi revealed to Engadget. “You can expect to see us do a bunch of things over the coming months to make the experience easier and easier, even if you don’t have a Kinect.”
While a controller can be used to navigate the system, Kinect is currently used to quickly switch between Xbox One apps, record gameplay footage and turn on the console using voice commands.
Mehdi’s comments follow Microsoft’s announcement yesterday that it is to offer Xbox One without Kinect included in the box, marking another U-turn on the platform holder’s earlier policies.
Despite the decision, however, Xbox boss Phil Spencer maintains that “Kinect remains an important part” of Microsoft’s vision for Xbox One.
