Microsoft has attempted to sweep comments that outed the existence of a “new Xbox” under the carpet, saying that the comments made by Windows manager Brian Hall earlier in the week “were not understood in their intended context”.
“When Brian mentioned a ‘new wave of products,’ he was referring to the full line-up of products coming later this year from Microsoft,” Microsoft told The Verge, “including Windows 8, Office, Windows Phone and of course our fall Xbox update which will bring a host of new consumer experiences like Xbox Music, Videos, Games on Windows 8 and Xbox SmartGlass.”
Of course he did, Microsoft. How silly of us.
Hall made mention of a “new Xbox” while discussing the recent changes made to Microsoft’s Hotmail service, stating that the release of the new Outlook service is “right in time for the new wave of products that we could have coming out with Windows 8, with the new version of Office, with the new Windows phone, and the new Xbox.”
Ignoring the slip up from Hall, Microsoft has yet to formally discuss plans for a next-generation Xbox.
There’s enough circumstantial evidence to suggest that Microsoft is in the process of developing a new Xbox. You’re not fooling anybody with this one, MS.
