Microsoft 365 Copilot was announced recently, though while many thought it would be on our PCs by now, it’s only available to a limited few Beta members. However, according to Windows Central, we’ve finally got a look at the AI automation software.
In the past few weeks, AI has heavily dominated the headlines. ChatGPT and GPT-4, Google Bard, and the recent open letter calling for a halt to development. The advancements in technology are coming hard and fast, and even Microsoft are getting involved.
Bing AI has been around for a while now, and their Copilot Security X is set to change cyber-security forever. However, one of the most underrated potential AI use-cases is soon to be implemented, and we might have been able to see what it could look like.
Microsoft 365 Copilot for Word finally revealed
Microsoft 365 Copilot hasn’t got a confirmed release date just yet, but it’s possible we’ve able to have a look at what it could look like. This is thanks to the folks over at Windows Central, one of whom has allegedly managed to get their hands on a copy of Copilot for Word “available to select users only.”
Mayank Parmar, the beta tester, has reported that the feature is “hidden” in the latest Office Word Insiders Beta Channel, and “it doesn’t work properly, at least for now.”
Parmar also reported there are two functioning features at the moment – “Start a document” and “Just write about it.”
One of the most notable takeaways from this observation of the product is that “Microsoft’s AI generated an entire document which passed plagiarism tests,” which is certainly both exciting and worrying with the current receptions to generative content from universities and academia.
It’s important to note that the features allegedly ‘not working’ are expected as Microsoft 365 Copilot for Word is still in beta for the twenty odd people with access. It’s likely we won’t see a functioning product for months still.
