While Bethesda Game Studios and Virtuos’ official Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was an absolute banger release earlier this year, there’s another return to Cyrodil planned to launch soon: Skyblivion. Created by fans over many years, this total conversion Skyrim mod remakes Cyrodil with expanded areas based on official concept art and cut mechanics such as Goblin Tribes.

Releasing in late 2025, the Skyblivion mod team has teamed up with GOG to release the massive total conversion mod via its new one-click mods format. This new format allows GOG to pre-package mods into official games—such as DOOM 3, Skyrim and more—and give players a one-click install that massively improves their experience.

Skyblivion follows in Fallout London’s footsteps

Similar to Fallout London, which launched with its own installer on the storefront, players will be able to simply grab and download The Elder Scrolls: Skyblivion on release day with a simple one-click installation process.

Of course, players will have to own The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim to make use of this feature, but the one-click install method will be able to install to either a GOG or Steam install of the game. However, this will be hands-down the easiest method of installing the game.

Speaking to Rock, Paper, Shotgun, project lead Kyle ‘Rebelzize’ Rebel explained that the Skyblivion team sees this as an opportunity to have even more gamers experience the mod. With GOG’s method for Fallout London, which is now available in VR, bringing millions to the project, this could have a similar outcome.

“We are looking to get Skyblivion into as many hands as possible and GOG will be a great partner to help make that possible,” Rebel explained. “We will still try to self-distribute, but I doubt we can beat stable GOG servers.”

“As for the steps required to play, we’re still working on them; however, it is very likely that we would propose two options: if you own the base game on GOG, you will only need to add the one-click version of the mod to your account, press install and… just play,” added a GOG spokesperson. “If you don’t, there will be a few additional steps, but we will do our best to make it as simple as possible.”

While The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is a gorgeous official facelift of the RPG, the upcoming Skyblivion project aims to add much more expansive features to the game. As a person who simply adores Oblivion and The Elder Scrolls, we have two cakes.
