Nintendo just hosted a new Indie and Partner Direct presentation, which was largely disappointing with very few announcements worth getting excited about, although the Yakuza Kiwami port is interesting. However, fighting game fans are set to be eating good as Capcom finally announced a release date for Marvel Vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, as well as a new collection of games that will bring multiple Capcom Vs. SNK titles to modern platforms for the first time.
During the Nintendo Direct presentation, it was announced that Marvel Vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics will be launching with a digital version first on September 12th on PC, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch, followed by a physical release on November 22nd. Check out the latest pre-order trailer below.
In addition to the Marvel Vs. Capcom Fighting Collection, fighting game players have more to look forward to in 2025 as Capcom also announced the Capcom Fighting Collection 2, bringing even more classic titles including multiple Capcom Vs. SNK games, which come just weeks after SNK Vs. Capcom SVC Chaos was surprise-released during Evo.
The Capcom Fighting Collection 2 will bring some deep cuts for more hardcore players, with it including Capcom vs. SNK: Millennium Fight 2000 Pro, Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001, Capcom Fighting Evolution, Street Fighter Alpha 3 UPPER, Project Justice, Power Stone, Power Stone 2, and Plasma Sword: Nightmare of Bilstein.
In addition to the Capcom Vs. SNK news, perhaps the most interesting inclusion is Street Fighter Alpha 3 UPPER, a Game Boy Advance port of the game that was released in 2002. Due to it being on handheld hardware, Street Fighter Alpha 3 UPPER features compressed stages and music tracks, with some also being completely removed. The main selling point of this version is that Eagle, Maki, and Yun are present in the game using their Capcom Vs. SNK 2 sprites. These characters were also included in the later PSP port along with Ingrid. It seems unusual that Capcom would choose to go with this version of the game rather than the PSP version, or they could have used the 30th Anniversary version of the game for a better gameplay experience.
There is no release date for the Capcom Fighting Collection 2, but you can check out the announcement trailer below.
