Marvel Rivals Season 2, based on the vivid Hellfire Gala, has taken the hero shooter scene by storm, bringing gamers to the stunning Krakoa map and the psychic-powered Vanguard, Emma Frost. The season, which debuted earlier this month, has changed the meta with balancing fixes that benefit characters like Hulk and Groot, while new skins, including Loki and Hela’s Japanese-inspired costumes, bring flair to the battlefield.

The most notable addition, however, is the ongoing Giant-Size Brain Blast event, a limited-time mode that turns heroes into funny bobbleheads with huge heads. This chaotic Conquest version, which runs in two rounds (April 25-28 and May 2-5), includes exclusive rewards such as the Brain Blast emote for finishing 10 matches and leaderboard titles for top performers.

As the community revels in big-headed combat, excitement grows for the upcoming patch, which is coming this week and promises to address player input, particularly on Strategist balance following the noisy “Support Strike.” Ahead of the update, the file size of the patch has been leaked, and here’s what you can expect from the next Rivals patch.

Marvel Rivals’ next Season 2 update will have a smaller file size than usual

Marvel Rivals leakers such as X0XLeak have now revealed the file size for this week’s update that will drop on May 2, 2025. According to the leaks, the file size will be less than 2 GB and will focus on bringing improvements to the game, as mentioned in the latest Dev Talk.

However, since this is not a Season 2.5 patch, but rather a mid-season update, there will be several adjustments that will be made to the game. Here’s a quick rundown of what to expect:

New hero changes coming

Nerfs:

  • Groot -> Reduction in survivability
  • Cap America -> Reduction in survivability
  • Spider-Man -> Amazing Combo Damage range

Buffs:

  • Doctor Strange -> Requires less energy for his Ult
  • Winter Soldier -> Tainted Voltage and Team Up Ability
  • Some Strategists will do slightly more damage.

Competitive Performance Points

Duelists are performing slightly over average, and some Vanguards and Strategists are underperforming slightly. In an upcoming fix, the Performance rating calculation will be optimized to ensure fairness across all heroes.

The Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness skin will also apparently have the zombie hands appear on him during gameplay.

However, more significant changes, including new Team-Up abilities, Ultron, and an overhaul of the current meta, will be brought when Season 2.5 comes out in mid-May, so expect a bigger patch and downtime the next time around.
