Manor Lords publisher Hooded Horse is open to exploring new settings, saying ‘they might be cool to do at some point’. After the game’s shockingly polished early access launch last year, fans are eager to see what else is on the table.
Will Manor Lords explore different settings?
In an interview for an upcoming episode of the VideoGamer Podcast, Hooded Horse Director of Communications Joe Robinson revealed lead developer Grzegorz “Greg” Styczeń doesn’t mind engaging in “blue sky thinking”from time to time, “especially when people ask him about expansions”.
“He has talked about, yeah, this setting or that setting might be cool to do at some point,” said Robinson. “But the early access period is right up to 1.0. We’ll focus on the medieval German setting… that is kind of
at the core of the game.”

There’s no word yet on what these ‘different settings’ could be, but some Manor Lords fans have already thought about a Rome reskin, which many think would work very well. Feudal Japan is another setting that players think would lend itself to ML’s intricate gameplay mechanics.
Styczeń has discussed this possibility in the past, with the game’s official Discord saying:
“The EA launch version of the game is going to be a single faction and sandbox only. However, exploring different cultures and themes in the future is something I’ve thought about.”
In the interview, Robinson also revealed Greg’s philosophy was always “just to kind of polish as much as possible” rather than bombard users with loads of hotfixes. “It’s not like Greg is not one for hot fixes, he said. “Sometimes you see people release kind of rapid fire hot fixes. But Greg tends to like to collect everything and then kind of fix everything all at once.”
Manor Lords’ player count has depressed signifcantly since it launched last year, where it reached an all-time peak of more than 173,000 players nine months ago. Still, it regularly attracts more than 10,000 players, despite still being in early access. Robinson confirmed that there are still features in the build that are “very much work in progress”, such as the Castle Planner, so fans should expect more significant improvements in coming patches.
“Player feedback comes from a number of places,” said Robinson. “We get reports from the Discord. The Discord community is very active in reporting and highlighting bugs.
“We have a QA company we work with that help log and track that and replicate things. So Greg knows how to find them and fix them. We pay attention to what creators and press are saying about the game.
“In Steam reviews people will often highlight things that were very important to their playthrough within steam reviews. We’ll kind of notice those and try to make sure we put in a fix for them where we can.”
Manor Lords is currently available in early access, or “Game Preview”, on PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles. No PlayStation port has been announced.
