The game was initially announced in 2022 during a Nintendo Direct Mini with a release date trailer, which was originally scheduled for 2023. This was delayed, and the game finally received an official launch day in April 2024 during another of Nintendo’s Indie World Showcase. Lorelei and the Laser Eyes will be released on PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch, with no other platform releases planned or mentioned.

Lorelei and the Laser Eyes gameplay details

Despite the game launching in May, there has been very little detail shown about the game. This is seemingly done on purpose by Simogo and Annapurna, to keep the mystery of the game intact until you start playing. Any good puzzle game understands this, so it’s nice to see they’re not giving everything away in trailers and info dumps.

From what we can gather based on the trailers and information on Steam, you will play as Lorelei who is trying to navigate a mysterious black-and-white old baroque manor. As you play through each area, you will have to solve puzzles and spot patterns using Lorelei’s laser eyes. As for why she’s even there, here is what Simogo has to say about the game: “A woman, summoned by an eccentric man to participate in a project in an old hotel somewhere in central Europe, becomes embroiled in a game of illusions, increasingly dangerous and surreal”.

Now you are invited to fall into the same rabbit hole, in a non-linear mystery with an immense amount of handcrafted puzzles, constantly presenting you with new riddles to solve, each leading you closer to deciphering the enigma of Lorelei and the Laser Eyes.

Perhaps the most interesting thing about Lorelei and the Laser Eyes is that it is the follow-up game from a beloved studio, known as the developers of Sayonara Wild Hearts. Back in 2019, Simogo bottled lightning with its musical-themed game Sayonara Wild Hearts. While these two games couldn’t be more different, there is hope that the studio can deliver another fantastic experience.
