Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio are gearing up for the launch of Like a Dragon: Ishin! – the remake of the Yakuza historical spin-off title.

A new trailer called Blade of Vengeance was uploaded through the official Sega YouTube channel, which displayed more of the game’s action-packed and dramatic plot line.

Like a Dragon: Ishin! – release date, setting and more

Like a Dragon: Ishin will release on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC on 21st February 2023.

However, those who opt for the game’s Digital Deluxe Edition can play a few days earlier – starting from 17 February 2023.

The game swaps the mean streets of Tokyo for a trip through historical Japan. Specifically, with the adventure taking place in 1860s Kyo.

The game originally launched as Ryu Ga Gotoku Ishin! and was a Japan exclusive for the PlayStation 4 and 3 in 2014. This new version will be rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine 4, giving proceedings a graphically modern sheen.

While you may recognise many of your Yakuza favourites, here they’re taking the roles of many historical Japanese figures.

You should expect the same level of drama as the modern-set games, of course. But be ready for some twisted character dynamics. For example, someone who might be a hero in the Yakuza timeline could be a villain in the Ishin one.

There’ll be over the top fighting – with the styles that characterized the action series returning. Of course, they’re given new twists to fit the period, including Swordsman style, Gunman style, Wild Dancer style and Brawler style.

In addition, Heat actions will be as over the top as ever, allowing you – for example – to summon a tiger to strike your foes, or shoving plums down their throats.

Former Ryu Ga Gotoku studio head Daisuke Sato had previously mentioned he’d like the team to give Ishin! a remaster. However, he along with former Yakuza creator Toshihiro Nagoshi departed RGG to form Nagoshi Studio at NetEase earlier this year.
