Arrowhead’s Helldivers 2 is continually evolving with massive updates such as weapon customisation on the way. Alongside brand-new mechanics for players to toy with, the developers are hard at work on new enemies that will keep even the most dedicated divers on their toes.
In a new leak by trusty dataminer IronS1ghts, a brand-new Automaton enemy for Helldivers 2 has been revealed. While there’s no confirmation from Arrowhead, this new enemies weapon is currently completely functional—although the weapon model itself is nowhere to be seen.
Helldivers 2’s new Automaton foe
Revealed by IronS1ghts, the new Automaton Flame Trooper enemy is a brand-new addition to the robotic army that aims to set every single player on fire with a long-range flamethrower. Each burst of the flamethrower will not only set a player alight, but will also leave lasting flames on the ground, making it harder to retreat.

Automaton Flame Troopers will mostly be normal-looking cyborgs, albeit with the new weapon. At the time of writing, the flamethrower itself does not have a model attached, the leaker has discovered a clunky robotic backpack that the troopers will wear. It’s not known if shooting this backpack will result in a spectaular explosion, but we hope so.
The new Flame Troopers are just one unit in a terrifying Automaton army expansion that’s coming in a future update. Alongside new Illuminate enemy types coming for a quickly-approaching Super Earth invasion, even the most dedicated divers are going to be kicked into the dirt sometime very soon.
As Arrowhead aims to turn Helldivers 2 into Helldivers 3 with years of updates, it certainly seems that the team is working hard on massively expanding the already-amazing suite of gameplay ideas. With new crossovers on the way and massive story events, there’s no stopping the wave of democracy.
