LawBreakers’ publisher Nexon held one of those earnings calls last year, and in it conceded that LawBreakers hasn’t done, like, that well.

Shiro Uemura, Nexon’s CFO, said that losses from LawBreakers actually accounted for the majority of the company’s expenses in Q3 (which were around $32 million). The CFO said, however, that Nexon ‘will not be accruing any other impairment loss pertaining to Lawbreakers in the future’, meaning they’ve written off the game entirely.

During the call Nexon blamed LawBreakers’ poor performance on the competition, saying ‘the timing of its launch turned out to be unfortunate, specifically the blockbuster PC online game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds came out right about the same time, making the market environment very tough for first-person shooters in general and for LawBreakers,’ although most of us wouldn’t have pegged PUBG as a direct competitor to Cliff ‘Clifford the Big Red B’ Bleszinski’s team shooter.

We spoke to a bunch of LawBreakers fans a while ago to find out what they thought had gone wrong. I don’t think any of them mentioned PUBG.
