Larian Studios teases huge Baldur’s Gate 3 update following minor hotfix

A massive Baldur’s Gate 3 update is on the way from Larian Studios following the release of the game’s latest hotfix. With promises for cross-play support and a dedicated photo mode, the next major BG3 update could include some awesome new additions. Whatever it is, the update is “big”, and Larian wants fans to know.

Huge Baldur’s Gate 3 update coming

Following the release of Baldur’s Gate 3 Hotfix #28, Larian Studios director of publishing Michael Douse teased the game’s next update on Twitter. While the Larian dev didn’t explain when the next update will release, or what it will entail, the small tease immediately excited everyone.

“Something so small before something so big,” Douse remarked in a quick Twitter post. While the Larian employee later joked he was talking about a “very big cheeseburger” they had made for lunch, BG3 fans know something big is in the works.

Baldur’s Gate 3’s next big update will likely be added to the PC version of the game first. In previous updates, such as Patch 7, console players have received the latest updates of Larian’s RPG just slightly later than the PC version.

What will be included in Patch 8?

At the time of writing, the exact details of Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 have yet to be revealed. However, proper cross-play support across PC and console has been in the works for a while alongside a photo mode.

Alongside continued development of BG3, Larian is also closing the book on the game as it moves to its next project. With the studio’s next game not expected to release until 2028 at the very earliest, it will be years until fans can expect to play any version of the next RPG.
