Larian Studios, the developer behind the world-renowned CRPG Baldur’s Gate 3, is opening a brand-new department to focus on RPG storytelling. Following news that the studio is now working on two new games at the same time, Larian has announced that it’s opening a new department to support the dense, choice-riddled storytelling required of its games.
With Larian officially no longer working on major patches for Baldur’s Gate 3, the studio is now bunkered down to work on its next two games. Just like how the studio ramped up hiring to create BG3, there is still hiring to be done for its next projects.
Larian opens new department entirely for storytelling
In a recent job listing for the company, Larian announced its hiring for a “brand-new storytelling department”. Based in Guildford, England, the new department asks for writers who can “carefully concoct a watertight tale, complete with world-building and pronunciation guide for that mysterious new stomach bug”.
For the new department, Larian is hiring for three roles as of the time of writing, a story department lead, a senior story editor and a creative partnerships developer.
“We’re on the hunt for even more storytellers, leaders, and editors from different disciplines, media and backgrounds, who will work with our narrative teams to create compelling and rich narratives for decades to come,” the studio explained.
Unfortunately for sluething fans, the new job listings don’t reveal what games the developer is working on… although one of the two is probably a return to Divinity, right? Nevertheless, it’s clear that Larian Studios’ long-established penchant for deep, thoughtful storytelling is still fuelling its next two games.
While Larian has crafted some very amazing stories in the past, this new department focused entirely on storytelling is an entirely new addition to the developer. Let’s think about it: if Larian is hiring people to keep track of in-game lore and spin-up new tales, just how dense is the studio’s next game going to be?
