Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian Studios is officially leaving its adored RPG behind as it begins work on two new games. Following a heartfelt goodbye to fans, Larian is still assisting with mod moderation and minor hotfixes, but the future of the series is now left in Hasbro’s hands.

In a recent interview, BG3’s Lae’zel actor Devora Wilde explained that Larian’s decision to leave the game in favour of new horizons is a “very smart” decision. After the studio admitted it found making DLC too “boring”, everyone is excited to see just what the studio is cooking up next.

Leaving Baldur’s Gate 3 was Larian’s best choice

In an interview with the Ready, Aim, Fire Podcast, Wilde explained that she has no idea what’s going on with the future of Baldur’s Gate. While she expressed a desire to voice Lae’zel again in the future, the actor doesn’t know what Hasbro’s plans are for the series.

“Honestly, I don’t know,” the actress said. “The only thing I know is what everyone else knows—Larian, I think, have said they won’t be doing any more Baldur’s Gate, that’s what I know. They’ve announced that publicly. Whether somebody else is gonna do it, who knows? Who knows.”

Wilde explained that Larian’s decision to focus on something new—whether that’s a brand-new universe or a return to Divinity—is a “very smart” decision. The actor explained that the studio has already given fans a “once-in-a-lifetime” experience, and it may be more fulfilling to try something else.

“I think, in many ways, it’s a very smart decision,” the actor said. “They’ve made something so, so special and so incredible and so unique and literally once-in-a-lifetime that it would be so exciting now for people to see them do something else. And probably smash it because they’re amazing at everything they do.”

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a once-in-a-lifetime game. Despite only being out for a year—well, quite a while if you count early access—the game has millions of fans and mod teams filled with hundreds of dedicated creators eagerly making new content for the community. This type of release doesn’t happen often, and we can only hope Larian’s next game is met with the same fervour as BG3. After all, the studio deserves it.
