Resident Evil 4 Remake, a reimagining of the critically acclaimed horror classic, continues to receive a tremendous amount of positive fanfare much like the original.

However, some fans continue to wonder about the content included within and whether or not it will be the same as the previous installment. Well, you won’t need to wonder any longer horror fans because we’re here to let you know what the differences are between the latest remake and the beloved classic titles.
What are the differences between Resident Evil 4 Remake and the original?
Most of the game’s core elements, like the plot itself and the camera style, largely remain the same all throughout. However, there are still a few minor differences that have been made to its gameplay and quality that make it feel like a modern AAA title.
Here are some of the significant changes that were introduced in the remake:
- Improved visuals
- Crouching and stealth kills
- Knife parrying and durability
- Side quest availability
- Removal of quick time events
- Updates to Ashley’s gameplay mechanics
Aside from the obvious visual enhancements, the other prominent improvements that were made include giving Leon the ability to crouch and parry. In the original title, both combat elements were absent, which made our protagonist very vulnerable to certain attacks. With their introduction, however, it gives players more avenues in handling different fight scenarios. Keep in mind, though, that constantly using your melee weapon will now lessen its durability.
Another important upgrade that Capcom made was the addition of optional side quests. Now that exploring the in-game world is more seamless compared to the original, you’ll be free to travel to and from places that you’ve already explored. This means you’ll be able to undertake additional tasks that can only be finished within certain locations.
Ashley Graham, the all-important Baby Eagle, also received a few welcome changes. This includes the removal of her health bar, which was apparently made by the developers in order to make her “feel more like a natural companion and less like a second health bar to babysit.”
