With dozens of Stratagems to choose from in Helldivers 2, it can be difficult to figure out what you should carry when fighting the Automatons and Terminids. Not carrying the right support weapons can be the difference between success and failure. Thankfully, with a very active community online, we can learn what others are having success with, so we can try them out and see whether they suit our play styles.
U/d__radiodurans took to the Helldivers 2 sub-Reddit to discuss the Gas Strike Stratagem, which is often overlooked by players. “So I like to take Orbital Gas Strike on bug missions almost exclusively to hold down breaches and I think it works pretty well,” they said.
Other players praised the underrated Stratagem, including U/Optimal-System7454 who said “The Gas Strike is great. However, be careful using it with the Orbital Scatter modifier. You’d be better off with the Eagle Napalm in that case.”
U/CaptainMacObvious called the Gas Strike “absolutely awesome” saying “I use them a lot in Helldive. You can throw them on Bug Breaches and Dropship Drops and everywhere where you know enemies will pass. The cooldown is low, it’s a great Stratagem.”
U/NK1337 stated “Gas and Napalm are my favorites when dealing with bugs most of the time. Barring the orbital debuff shenanigans it’s always satisfying when you see a breech about to open and you manage to toss one right at the opening as you run away. You just see those democracy numbers slowly going up”
U/SpecialIcy5356 also pointed out its effectiveness against Automatons, even though most only use it when fighting Terminids. “Gas is slept on for bots IMO. Not only does it kill Fabricators with a direct hit, but bots in general don’t move around as much, so they stay in the gas longer. Also Gas Strike bypasses ALL armor, no matter how heavy. The substance is highly corrosive to metal which is why it still works on bots.”
The Gas Strike Stratagem is one that I have never used in a Helldivers 2 mission before, but after seeing other people praise it so much, I will be bringing it with me on my next mission, along with the Laser Cannon to take out the Gunships that have been a point of contention in recent days as many players are discovering how frustrating they can be.
The latest Major Order calls for players to “split the Automaton forces in two” by cutting off the supply lines in the Andromeda Sector, so these two Stratagems could be useful to ensure the robot army is eradicated once and for all.
