MW2: How To Fix Dev Error 356

Modern Warfare 2 (MW2) has been a divisive release for the Call of Duty fanbase similar to some of Infinity Ward’s previous titles. The game has mostly been praised for its improved campaign and smooth gunplay and game mechanics. However, it has also received plenty of criticism due to its large number of bugs and glitches.

A specific bug that players have been encountering in MW2 lately is the Dev Error 356. This unpredictable glitch often sours a player’s match experience because it forces them out of a game. Although the developers are yet to release an official patch addressing the issue, here are some ways on how you can fix it.

How To Fix Dev Error 356 in MW2

Repair Game Files

The first method that can help prevent Dev Error 356 is by repairing the game’s files. If you’re playing on Steam, head over to your Library and right-click on MW2. Then, select Properties, head over to the Local Files category, and click Verify integrity of game files.

You can use this method similarly on Battle.net albeit with a different process. On the Battle.net app, click MW2 and select the Gear icon. Then, you’ll just need to click Scan and Repair afterwards.

Restart Shaders Optimization

You can also try selecting MW2’s Restart Shaders Optimization in its Display category if the previous method doesn’t work.

To do this, you’ll need to start the game up and then head over to its Settings. Next, select the Graphics tab to find the Display category and click the option that says Restart Shaders Optimization. Afterwards, you’ll simply need to restart the game for the optimization process to take effect.

Hopefully Infinity Ward releases an official way of fixing this error soon, but for now you can attempt these temporary methods to make your MW2 experience smoother.
