IO Interactive has lifted the lid on its plans for a wealth of new additions for Hitman 3 in 2022 including a new singleplayer game mode named Freelancer.

The new mode introduces “roguelike elements & strategic planning” to the game this Spring. It all starts from your Safehouse, the new map teased at the end of last year. There you’ll be able to pick costumes, test weapons in a firing range or just change the décor. Yes, this space will be customisable, and completing missions in the new mode unlocks more areas of the Safehouse too.

But more importantly, you’ll use the space to plan out missions. A new mission hub will offer several Freelancer campaigns, offering challenges representing various criminal enterprises. You’ll load up, resupply and plan missions and execute them to earn cash to buy more supplies for the next one. These missions have been reworked from the original campaign to give them unique twists too. These include new NPCs, suppliers and more. Be careful though, any equipment you leave behind will be lost forever, and the ICA aren’t around to restock you.

Freelancer isn’t the only new Hitman addition coming this year. IO has also announced Hitman Trilogy is coming on January 20, collecting all three recent Hitman games into one package. It’ll be available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC, and will also be available via Xbox Game Pass.

On top of that, Hitman VR will drop on PC on January 20, and will support Hitman 1 and 2 levels when played through Hitman 3, just like the PSVR version. Finally, IO teased the first look at a new map coming later in 2022 to Hitman 3, entitled Rocky. You can check out all of this in the livestream video below.
