Squanch Games’ High on Life has proven a very popular addition to Xbox Game Pass, it appears.

The game, from the studio of Rick and Morty creator Justin Roiland, currently stands as the most played game on the Xbox Game Pass service, on both console and PC.

The shooter released last week to a rather lukewarm critical reception, only garnering an average of 69% on OpenCritic and 63 on Metacritic.

However, this hasn’t deterred those with an Xbox Game Pass subscription, with gamers worldwide deciding to download and play High on Life themselves.

So many have done so, in fact, that at the time of writing the game is ahead of many first party and long-standing Game Pass games on the service, including Forza Horizon 5, Minecraft and Halo Infinite.

In case you’re unfamiliar at this point, High on Life is an FPS where you play a human bounty hunter, after Earth has been invaded by aliens who use humans as drugs.

Most notably, the game includes a roster of living weapons, who speak to you throughout the game in a manner that’ll be familiar to fans of Roiland’s other work.

VP of Xbox Games Marketing Aaron Greenberg tweeted his congratulations to Squanch Games and Justin Roiland for the success of the game. He also noted that it’s currently the top selling game on Steam too.

Could the game’s success also mean it comes to PlayStation consoles in the future? Nothing’s been announced yet and it’s probably not for a while yet – as Squanch Games says they partnered with Xbox to bring the game to Xbox consoles.

But perhaps some time down the line? We’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, you can check out our Achievement Guide for the game right over here.
