With Death Stranding 2: On the Beach finished and ready to launch, Hideo Kojima is already working on his next game. Either the horror game OD or the Metal Gear successor Physint, Kojima isn’t taking any breaks before his next project, but the rest of Kojima Productions is.
Speaking on his own radio show KOJI10, Kojima revealed that his development studio will be taking a significant break after Death Stranding 2 launches on PS5. However, the Metal Gear Solid creator is continuing to work on one of his many upcoming projects.
Kojima is working on his next game already
Translated by social media user Genki_JPN, Kojima explained that he is “already working on the next one now” when discussing his next projects. While the game director didn’t explain which games he was working on currently, he did explain that the rest of Kojima Productions isn’t a fan of his rapid work ethic.
“Just me. Everyone dislikes it when I submit the project plans at this point in time,” Kojima explained. “They are like ‘Huh?, I thought you are taking a break. But you’re talking about the next one.'”
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is already described as more of a spiritual successor to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain than Kojima expected, but the game director is returning to the tactical espionage genre with Physint. After hearing the fan requests for him to return to the Metal Gear series, the game director wanted to make the ultimate tactical espionage game.
At the time of writing, Physint and OD both are without release dates, but the former isn’t expected until the PlayStation 6 is on the market. It’s going to be a long time until Kojima’s next project is playable but considering the developer’s past, it should very much be worth it.
