Arrowhead have just made the huge announcement that Helldivers 2 is coming to Xbox. It’s something many players have wanted ever since HD2 came out in early 2024, but fans didn’t think it would happen thanks to Sony’s reluctance to release PlayStation published games on Microsoft consoles. While fans are elated that Arrowhead have achieved the impossible by bringing Helldivers 2 to Xbox, the unfortunate news is that the developer still has “no plans” for cross-progression, despite previous discussions.
Arrowhead still have no plans for cross-progression in Helldivers 2
When Helldivers 2 comes to Xbox, it will feature full crossplay as confirmed by the Xbox Wire. This means players on PS5 and PC will be able to support and be reinforced by new Super Earth soldiers from the Xbox Series X/S.
While it’s great that we will be able to band together with players on Xbox, the only unfortunate detail is that there will be no cross-progression. There is already no cross-progression for PlayStation and PC, but Pilestedt previously delivered hope that it may be added in the future, with the CCO sharing discussions took place back in May 2024.
Unfortunately, despite these discussions, cross-progression has never been added, and it appears it may never as there are “currently no plans”. Following the Xbox announcement, on Discord, Arrowhead community manager, Baskinator, was asked, “If i pre order the Xbox version can I get the pre order armour on my pc account?”. Baskinator responded, “You wouldn’t be able to transfer items, no,” and shared in another message there are “currently no plans for cross prog”.
In slightly better news, regarding the pre-order armor for Xbox, Baskinator revealed Arrowhead “plan to bring those back for PS5/PC players at a later date”.
It’s a shame there isn’t cross-progression in Helldivers 2, but the game is still incredible. It’s one of the best multiplayer games and so far it has proven to be Sony’s biggest, and perhaps only, live-service success. Xbox players are in for a treat when it comes out in August, and us existing Helldivers 2 players can’t wait to welcome them all to the battlefield.
