It’s been a massive week for Helldivers 2. It all started with the release of update 01.002.200, and then Arrowhead released a new Warbond called Borderline Justice. Going back to the update though, Super Earth soldiers discovered that it added a new mechanic, and a Helldivers 2 leaker has revealed that this secret new mechanic paves the way for leaked Illuminate enemies.
Secret new Helldivers 2 mechanic is used by the Illuminate
Following the release of update 01.002.200, Helldivers 2 fans on Reddit have spotted a new mechanic that was secretly added. Per OP TehSomeDude, the “Gas effect now briefly confuses players (for 1.5s) flipping controls”.
As spotted by the community, the gas effect is “entirely new,” and it flips “the players movement controls for a brief moment when they get hit with gas”. You can see gameplay of the new effect in the embedded Reddit post below:
In response to this discovery shared by Helldivers_NOW on X, Iron_S1ghts has revealed that it is an effect actually used by the Illuminate Illusionists. As revealed by Iron_S1ghts, the new gas mechanic is the “Illuminate confusion effect… inflicted by the Illusionist”.
The leaker also elaborated “The Illusionist has this confusion effect, along with a ‘Reverse Aim Assist’ effect, which will guide your crosshair away from enemies when aiming at them”.
We’re still waiting for the Illuminate to fully invade. Some fans are theorizing that this could be Arrowhead testing the mechanic to discover whether it will be too annoying for players.
Hopefully the Illuminate fully invade soon. We’ve been waiting for the full invasion since day one of the game’s official launch, and it seems nearer now following a creepy warning assumed to be from the army of squids.
